This case study walks through a real OEM project – from material selection to final audit. It is intended for brands who want to understand our engineering approach. For pricing and sample requests, please visit our main product page.

Project Background: Original Customer Requirements

The Client – AMD, a global leader in semiconductor technology, needed a batch of custom black laptop sleeves for premium corporate gifts and internal events.
Challenge – They required a sleeve with:

  • Size – For 14.5‑inch laptops; interior cavity must precisely fit that dimension.

  • Material thickness – 3mm neoprene to provide adequate cushioning.

  • Appearance – Deep, uniform black with a soft, elastic Lycra fabric surface.

  • Branding – Front printing of the AMD logo and the slogan “The energy of innovation. (fusion)”.

  • Print quality – Sharp edges, no cracking under stretch, and no color migration from the black fabric into the printed graphic.

  • Durability – Suitable for daily commuting and business travel, with smooth zippers and strong seams.

The Order – 3000 units, to be delivered in 30 days, with 2 samples approved before bulk.

Our Solution: Material & Process Decision Making

Customer Requirement Our Material & Process Decision Reason
Deep black + Lycra elastic surface Black Lycra composite + 3mm SBR closed‑cell neoprene Lycra provides soft, stretchy feel; SBR offers cushioning. Black is inherent, no dyeing needed.
Print AMD logo + slogan on front Offset Heat Transfer with white anti‑migration barrier layer The barrier layer completely prevents color migration from the black Lycra, keeping white and light areas clean.
No cracking under stretch High‑elasticity offset heat transfer ink + optimized pressing parameters Ink matches Lycra stretch; temperature/time tuned for flexible bonding.
Environmental compliance Toluene‑free adhesive + REACH/RoHS certified materials Meets AMD’s global supply chain requirements.

Production Challenges & Engineering Solutions

Challenge 1: Offset Heat Transfer on Black Lycra – Color Migration & Anti Migration Layer

Phenomenon – In the first sample, the white areas of the AMD logo showed a grayish shadow after heat pressing, especially at the edges, making the text look dirty.
Root Cause – The disperse dyes in the black Lycra sublimated under high heat and migrated into the heat transfer ink layer – a common issue with dark synthetic fabrics.
Solution –

  1. Added a white anti‑migration barrier layerunder the CMYK layers of the offset heat transfer film.
  2. Optimized heat press parameters: reduced temperature from 160°C to 145°C and increased pressing time from 12s to 15s.
  3. Used anti‑migration inkspecially formulated for dark textiles.

Result – The barrier layer completely blocked black migration; white areas remained clean. Passed 500 stretch cycles with no cracking or staining.

Offset heat transfer printed AMD logo on black Lycra neoprene sleeve showing severe color migration – white text appears gray with dirty edges due to dye sublimation from dark fabric.

Without anti‑migration layer: dye migration from black Lycra causes gray shadows and dirty edges on white printed areas.

Offset heat transfer printed AMD logo on black Lycra neoprene sleeve with white anti-migration barrier layer – clean, sharp white text with no color migration or edge shadow.

With white anti‑migration barrier layer: clean, sharp white text with no color migration.

Challenge 2: Sewing Machine Selection – Puckering at Corners with 3mm Lycra Laminate

Phenomenon – Using a standard flatbed sewing machine caused puckering at curved corners.
Solution – Switched to a Narrow Arm Cylinder‑Bed Sewing Machine with adjusted feed synchronization.
Result – Corner flatness tolerance improved from ±2mm to ±0.5mm.

Two neoprene samples: one yellow with a BUZBE logo patch and one paisley sublimation print with pink edge binding.
